About the Author

I am a teacher, and an advocate for education issues.

I teach Math and Science at Mount Vernon High School.

I am currently the President of the WEA Fourth Corner Council. This makes me a sort of mid-level manager for the dreaded Washington Education Association, which is sometimes incorrectly castigated in the press as the “Teacher’s Union.” Personally, I can’t think of anything less evil that advocating for children and educators. I am proud to be a member of, and in service to the WEA.

I am married to Edie Hope. We each have two grown children, and have two grandchildren in the world and two on the way.

If you read this blog, you will note that I am a liberal. I believe in individual liberty. I believe that there is great value in our sharing our resources to make a better society. I believe we are stronger together than apart.

In my non-political world, I try to hold onto that which is simple in life. I like front porches, cheesy books and red wine. Fortunately, these things can be taken together.

I just turned sixty. I hope that my choices reflect someone who is dying to live, rather than living to die. Life is about the journey, not the destination.
